Quickies: Two awesome forces one potentially awesome fighter

One of the things I disliked about my hiatus, was that I was entirely out of the loop on some really awesome things underway. One thing in particular was the fantastic  Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena which made the rounds at Tokyo Game Show. The game is being developed by Arc Systems Works, the masterminds behind Guilty Gear and BlazBlue, and the lesser known, but equally awesome Hokuto No Ken.

As amazing as this concept is for a Persona based fighting game to happen, the story of how it happened is equally interesting.

"It was Atlus who wanted to do a Persona 4 fighting game and contacted us because our specialty is being a fighting game developer," Minoru Kidooka, President of Arc System Works, said in a Siliconera interview.

"It’s a funny story, [laughs] Atlus first contacted us through a general inquiry e-mail at hello@arcsys.com," Kidooka recounted. "It’s rare, but not completely unusual. While we do work with contacts, our front door is also open for all publishers!"
Clearly by happenstance was this event brought up, and now we have quite interesting results. check out the video footage.

This reminds me of an upgraded version of Jojo's bizarre adventure!!

The sprites are damn sexy, and the backgrounds look gorgeous. the action looks beautifully savage!! The good news is that after location testing, it's been stated on Siliconera that the game will be in arcades as early as next month, and will be available for 360 and PS3 by Summer.

"A bit more surprising is Persona 4 The Ultimate In Mayonaka Arena. Atlus is teaming up with Arc System Works for a 2D fighter that will be released first for arcades in Spring 2012, then for PS3 and Xbox 360 in Summer 2012.

Developed by the team behind Arc's BlazBlue fighting series, the Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena has a new story that takes place two yeas after the events of Persona 4. Characters from Persona 4 and Persona 3 will feature in the game."
