Quickies: Games about Game Development scare gamers

A friend of mine at work has been playing Game Dev Story and lately he's been enjoying it, but I don't think I've ever really asked him if he found the game to be terrifying enough to not take interest in game development. I came across this article via Digg, and found the commentary to be quite interesting, despite the fact that some of the scenarios are probably all too real for some devs. Making the games you want versus making the games that sell does suck, but in the end your goal is to appease your audience to ultimately keep your company afloat. With that being said it's a good read, and I advise you to check it out.

As scary as the game is (and from what I've read it does sound off on some truths), I wonder if the game even acknowledges the wider business world that exists beyond the schedules and stuff that one has to race against in the title. If not, then it just comes off like a more pessimistic version of The Sims.
ReplyDeleteConsidering the fact that I'm well overdue to get a new phone, I might be interested in upgrading to an android phone just to check the game out for myself and see.
