Why is online in console games so important, again?

Because as far as I know there are so many issues with console online gaming. Some games can't be online because if the controls are even off by a fraction of a second, due to lag, it breaks the gameplay, while other games have their experiences ruined by cheaters, hackers and griefers, which are gamers who harass and troll instead of playing the game for it's goals and enjoyment. It's funny because console based online gaming is supposed to be cheaper, faster, better than the alternative which is PC gaming, however It seems like it's coming up against the same issues that plague the former.

Now don't get me wrong, this isn't a complete diss on console online gaming, because I enjoy it when it's good. Games like Mario Kart Wii, The Conduit (despite the spawn glitch issues), The Halo games (when i did play them online. lately it's just local multiplayer whenever people ask me to play.) L4D and the sort seem exciting and awesome. Being able to play with or against people from all over the world is both fun and entertaining, and there's just a feeling you get when you're playing against people from other countries, and are in the lead. Completely exhilarating to say the least. Then you get into issues where you get that one guy (or girl, but more commonly guy. ) who pops in and decides that he wants to be invincible, or teleport to the lead of the race, or be able to walk through walls, and my personal favorite; the person who signs off right before they're about to lose.

Consider this a serious lack of sportsmanship. Fair play takes a backseat to the concept that winning isn't everything, it's the only thing. It's understandable that no one wants to lose however, There's something to be said about cheating to win. By losing we tend to focus on our mistakes to overcome them and work harder to win in the future, but we can't do that without accepting defeat. Even with that there's still another issue; the people who do it just do to it. Well the easy answer is that those people are attention starved."If I put my name at the top of the Mario Kart time trials leaderboards with a score of 0.3 seconds people will know it was I who did it, I shall be immortalized!!". Yeah...whatever. In reality it's more like "There's the asshat who ruined this week's Mario Kart event".
